About 188 Eglinton Avenue ESoHo Lofts

The SoHo Lofts is definitely unique, and for more reasons than just one. To begin, this hard loft conversion is located outside of downtown Toronto, in the slower-paced Mount Pleasant neighbourhood. What’s more, rather than being converted from an industrial building, loft owners at 188 Eglinton Ave East now live where business was once done.

This rare and distinctive building is ideal for those looking for a true hard loft in the heart of mid-town Toronto. Converted in 1998, the first residents of the SoHo lofts might have been ahead of the curve, but current owners are really able to reap the benefits of this prime location thanks to its recent growth.

The exclusivity at 188 Eglinton Ave East is accentuated by the fact that only 88 Toronto lofts can be found at this address. Those interested in living at the SoHo Lofts will have to act fast when a unit appears on the market, as Toronto condos for sale here are very appealing, especially when considering the enticing amenities offered to residents: a gym, sauna, and even a golf cage are available for use.

Additionally, a rooftop terrace makes for an ideal place to curl up with a book, while parking spots are available for an additional cost. Speaking of cost, prospective buyers interested in all of these amenities should be aware that the maintenance fees are not some of the lowest in Toronto.

As for the building’s style, it falls somewhere in between the traditional condo and historical hard lofts. Thanks to its lack of a manufacturing-based history, raw industrial elements are far and few between. However, that loft-like ambiance is certainly present.

    The Suites

With the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood teeming with single-family homes and contemporary high-rise condos, the SoHo offers something a little different for buyers with flare.

Some of the homes at 188 Eglinton Ave East still manage to rival their detached home neighbours in terms of square footage, however. While smaller lofts start at around 600 square feet, some of the largest ones reach to approximately 1,200. Those hoping to raise small families here will be more than content with the two bedroom, two bathroom units.

The suites feel loft-like thanks to the abundance of hardwood flooring, sliding doors, and exposed ductwork found throughout 188 Eglinton Ave East. Ceilings heights are also lofty, some of which reach to 11 feet tall, oversized windows only accentuate this feature further.

    The Neighbourhood

With its address directly on Eglinton Avenue, between Yonge and Mount Pleasant, residents have much to explore. A sizeable Loblaws is only a block away, just on the other side of Eglinton, while two Metros are within walking distance, either in the Yonge-Eglinton centre or at the corner of Bayview and Eglinton. Specialty shops also line the area, such as the Cheese Emporium at Mount Pleasant and Eglinton, David’s Tea on Yonge, and much more.

Between the Yonge-Eglinton Centre and the shops along Yonge Street, residents can also get their shopping fixes in without heading downtown. Sporting Life has two locations on Yonge, one filled with clothing, shoes, and accessories, with the other specializing in all things “Bikes and Boards.” Restaurants are also aplenty, with everything from sushi to Indian to fresh pasta or the perfectly cooked steak within walking distance.

While this description makes the neighbourhood sound just like downtown Toronto, its slightly northern location offers residents a slight relief from the hustle and bustle. Especially beneficial to residents of the SoHo Lofts is the wide array of green space nearby. Eglinton Park boasts an outdoor swimming pool, Mount Pleasant Cemetery is a great spot to cycle, and not to mention the area is surrounded with ravines to explore on foot.

    Transportation

While the 188 Eglinton Ave East may not be directly downtown, it surely is within close reach of the subway. With Eglinton Station just minutes away on foot, residents can hop onto trains heading south and land themselves downtown within minutes. The entire trip to Bloor and Yonge, for example, takes only 15 minutes — and that’s without a car.

Speaking of cars, drivers living at the SoHo Lofts can make use of their close proximity to the 401 or the Don Valley Parkway, from which one can zip around the city (or out of it) in no time. When leaving from this address, residents can even reach Pearson International Airport in just about 30 minutes, while those using public transit can access the airport in about an hour. Driving downtown is also made easier via fast-paced routes like Mt. Pleasant Road or Bayview Avenue.
